The 21st Century Drum Major Instinct

Earlier this morning via Facebook, I posted the following message:

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. recruiting for a march on Washington in Batesville, Mississippi, on March 19, 1968Earlier this morning on Facebook, I posted the following message:

…Up listening to speeches by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. I am not privy to what my peeps receive in the south as it pertains to parades, talks, or discussions on this day where I live now. I literally have to drive two hours from where I live just to see or even feel the vibrancy of my culture.

As I continue to listen to Dr. King, realizing that everything that he said is relevant and in motion today: Racial Injustice and Economic Inequality; somewhere the generation he came from and the one thereafter dropped the torch, because of complacency and promises given and broken.

The 21st Century Drum Major Instinct:

My question in this last year of the OBAMA era, where do we go from here? What has my generation learned? How do we pick up the torch and carry it in the 21st century as we go forward… How do we create and sustain organizations and movements that produce policies and new laws in our country? Are we truly leaders or corporate junkies (influence peddlers) willing to move away from our problems, versus being advocates for change.

Dr. King stated, “Somewhere I read,”  “Somewhere.”

Join me and listen to Dr. King’s following speeches:  “The other America” 1967 at Stanford University and “The Drum Major Instinct” 1968 at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia.

  1. I wrote some solutions that I think we could do individually and collectively to produce lasting change within our community and beyond. If you have a moment, you can read them here: http://www.tunisiajolyn.com/2016/01/19/lets-talk-about-solutions-shall-we/

💋...on my day off I learn more about my family history! I was invited by one of my new homies, we visited The Robert Stanley House. Every street in this area is named after a former slave! This area is considered the Southside/Breckenridge Area of Austin, TX. Well a few houses up - My cousin Willie Wells' ( The Great Baseball Player) home sits nicely in tact. I found out this morning that his daughter, Ms. Stella Wells ( Her grandmother is my great-great grandfather's sister.) died on July 4th 2019. I met her the first week in JUNE 2019 (she was 98 years young). I am grateful for knowing my history! #ubettathink2019 #allmyfriendsreadbooks #21stcenturyabolitionist #atxbougieblackni
